About the author

I am one of 4 children born in Harlem, NYC, I have two sisters and a brother. I went to an elementary Catholic school from kindergarten to eighth grade. Spent two years in an all-girls Catholic HS, then transferred to a public HS where I graduated. Upon graduation I attended Mercy College as a commuter student, located in NYC, with the plan of becoming a lawyer majoring in Political Science and found out immediately that was not for me. Under the advice of my then counselor I switched my major to Accounting. After one year, my family moved to Fort Lee, NJ and I needed to transfer schools. Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck NJ became my new school. I commuted for the first year and eventually moved on campus after meeting some amazing friends. At FDU I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where I am one of the founding members of the Nu Kappa Chapter. After graduation I worked for a black owned CPA firm as an auditor and realized auditing was not in my DNA. My then boss, assigned me to one of the nonprofit clients where I felt much more comfortable doing financial accounting. I believe that catapulted me into a career in nonprofit accounting where I have spent over 35 years. Mission driven organizations attract my core being, where I feel I contribute to the vision. I believe I have always been a spiritual person from a little girl, so my interest in teaching Sunday school felt natural. The work and church experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.
