About the Sparkle & Miles

Sparkle has dreamed of having a puppy of her own—and on her 7th birthday, that dream comes true! But Miles, a shy Great Dane rescue, isn’t quite ready to be best friends. Loud noises and sudden movements scare him, and he hides beneath bridges and behind fears too big for his little paws. Determined to earn his trust, Sparkle must learn something very important: sometimes love means slowing down, listening closely, and being oh-so-patient. Told in playful, rhyming verse with heartwarming illustrations, Sparkle and Miles: A Trusting Smile is a gentle, lyrical story about building trust, understanding trauma, and discovering that the strongest friendships bloom when we give them time. Perfect for bedtime, classrooms, or story time snuggles, this book is a beautiful reminder that love always finds its way—with kindness, patience, and a little sparkle

About the author

I am one of 4 children born in Harlem, NYC, I have two sisters and a brother. I went to an elementary Catholic school from kindergarten to eighth grade. Spent two years in an all-girls Catholic HS, then transferred to a public HS where I graduated. Upon graduation I attended Mercy College as a commuter student, located in NYC, with the plan of becoming a lawyer majoring in Political Science and found out immediately that was not for me. Under the advice of my then counselor I switched my major to Accounting. After one year, my family moved to Fort Lee, NJ and I needed to transfer schools. Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck NJ became my new school. I commuted for the first year and eventually moved on campus after meeting some amazing friends. At FDU I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where I am one of the founding members of the Nu Kappa Chapter. After graduation I worked for a black owned CPA firm as an auditor and realized auditing was not in my DNA. My then boss, assigned me to one of the nonprofit clients where I felt much more comfortable doing financial accounting. I believe that catapulted me into a career in nonprofit accounting where I have spent over 35 years. Mission driven organizations attract my core being, where I feel I contribute to the vision. I believe I have always been a spiritual person from a little girl, so my interest in teaching Sunday school felt natural. The work and church experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.
